Happy 67th Independence Day Indonesia
"On Friday and in Ramadhan" just like in 1945 when Indonesian just got independence day for the first time
Too bad that I'm no longer being a student so I couldn't attend the ceremony as usual
Okay, this time I'd like to share what my Dad has just told me about a life before independence day.
It started from my Mbah kakung. Who is Mbah Kakung? Mbah Kakung is my grandfather or my dad's father. He was born in 1926. I called him Mbah in Javanese language. He is a Veteran. Okay, what I'm going to share here will not be written in any books or elsewhere because this is based on true story and the actor is my Mbah itself.
Mbah told the story to my dad then my dad continued the story to me because I was asking while we were watching TV together about the flag ceremony.
Dad:
"You know? Mbah is a veteran. In past before we got our independence day, our country was colonized by Dutch for about 350 years. The people were suffered from food and life. They were not free enough. Then, the Japan came to Indonesia, but before that Japan colonized Korea first so Japan brought Korea people to attacked Indonesia. By that time, Indonesia was colonized by Dutch so Japan needed to attacked Dutch to dominate Indonesia.
At that time, Indonesian were to weak to attack Dutch because all we had just a stake of bamboo to attack them, and the result was nothing we couldn't attack them because they were too strong.
Then, Japan came and attacked Dutch. Japan won, Dutch left."
Me:
"So dad, after Dutch left, Japan came?"
Dad:
"Certainly".
After the Dutch left, Japan colonized our country. At that time, Japan was more cruel than Dutch. The people couldn't eat rice or any kind other food. They ate banana stem or a food that shouldn't be eaten.
They really wanted to attack Japan but the weapon wasn't strong enough.
Then, a news heard that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were in the bomb by US so the Japan gave up in Indonesia.
While they were giving up, the people in Indonesia had a chance to steal the weapon from Japan. So they were strong enough to kill the colonizer.
At that time, my Mbah was participated in struggling our country, you know? Mbah thrown up the grenade to the colonizer, Alhamdulillah Mbah didn't die at that time.
His friend was too poor, his leg was hited by the grenade so he only had only 1 leg till today.
Back to the story, when Japan gave up, our first President Ir. Soekarno Hatta proclaimed that Indonesia already free from colonizer and on 17 August 1945 was set as our INDEPENDENCE DAY
My Mbah was too cool to be true, right? My dad asked Mbah to register to a "KELURAHAN" that he already being a veteran because veteran will get a life fund but Mbah rejected it, he said "Why should I register? I'm proud to be veteran but I won't register only to get a life fund, I'm Ikhlas to be a hero".
Additional from my sister:
Mbah met Mbah Putri (his wife) while in the train which was colonized by Japan. So sweet!
I'm so proud of you Mbah.

Well, Happy Independence Day guys. We as a young generation let's make a change by giving a little dedication to our country.
Be blessed.
